One quick step
Before you connect Gmail
What happens next
- 1Tap “Continue to Google” below.
- 2Choose the Gmail account you want Calm Mail to tidy.
- 3Google shows its permission screen. It will say Composio. That's expected (see below).
- 4Tap Allow. Calm Mail starts tidying new email soon after. Emails already in your inbox are left as they are. Your first digest comes at your chosen time, or shortly after you connect if that time has already passed today.
Why does Google’s screen say “Composio”?
Composio is a company that specializes in connecting apps to services like Gmail securely. We use them for the connection to your Google account, so Google’s screen shows their name rather than ours.
You sign in on Google’s own page. Calm Mail never sees or stores your Google password. Composio holds the secure “key” that lets Calm Mail tidy your inbox, and you can take that key back at any time from your Google account.
What we’re asking permission to do, and why
See who each email is from and its subject line
So Calm Mail can tell a store promotion from a note from your kid's teacher.
Move emails out of your inbox (archive)
This is the tidying itself. Archived emails stay in Gmail's “All Mail.”
Read your replies to the digest
So when you write “always keep the school emails,” Calm Mail can follow your instructions.
Send email
Only to you: your daily digest, and a short note confirming any changes you ask for.
What Google’s screen will say, in plain English
Google’s permissions come in broad sizes, so its wording describes more than Calm Mail uses. Here are the four lines you’ll see, word for word, and what each one means for you.
“Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail”
This is Google's only permission that allows archiving, and it comes bundled with everything else. Calm Mail only archives, and only emails you to send your digest. It never deletes anything and never emails anyone but you.
“See your personal info, including any personal info you've made publicly available”
Google includes this with every connection. Calm Mail only uses your email address.
“See your primary Google Account email address”
So we know which Gmail account is yours and where to send your digest.
“Associate you with your personal info on Google”
Google shows this on every app connection. It links the connection to your Google account.
That’s the whole list. Calm Mail doesn’t ask for your contacts, calendar, files, birthday, address, or phone number.
Changed your mind later?
You can disconnect Calm Mail from your Google account in about a minute, and everything it archived stays in your Gmail. Our Trust page walks you through it.
