Terms of service
Last updated: October 7, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Cooper Schoenthaler, doing business as Calm Mail (“Calm Mail,” “we,” “us”) for using Calm Mail. By signing up, you agree to them. We’ve tried to keep them short and readable.
1. The service
Calm Mail connects to your Gmail account, archives emails that look like clutter, sends you a daily digest of what it archived, and updates its behavior when you reply to the digest. Calm Mail archives emails; it does not delete them. Archived emails remain in your Gmail’s All Mail.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 18 and the owner of (or authorized to manage) the Gmail account you connect. Calm Mail currently works with Gmail only.
3. Connecting your Gmail
The connection to your Google account is provided through Composio, a third-party service, and the service uses Claude by Anthropic to help decide what to archive. Your use of Gmail remains subject to Google’s own terms. You can disconnect at any time from Calm Mail’s Settings, or from your Google account settings. Our privacy policy explains how your information is handled.
4. Free trial, price, and billing
- New accounts start with a 14-day free trial. No card is needed to start it.
- To keep using Calm Mail, add a card in Settings. Calm Mail then costs $9 per month, billed monthly in advance through Stripe, until you cancel. If you add a card during the free trial, the first charge is when your trial ends. If you don’t add a card, Calm Mail stops tidying when the trial ends and you aren’t charged.
- You can cancel anytime from Settings by choosing Manage billing, or by emailing hi@calmmail.app. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing month. Deleting your data from Settings cancels your subscription immediately.
- Payments aren’t refunded for partial months. When you cancel, Calm Mail keeps working until the end of the month you’ve paid for. If something went wrong, like a double charge, email us and we’ll make it right.
- If we ever change the price, we’ll email you at least 30 days before it affects you.
5. AI can make mistakes
Calm Mail uses automated rules and AI to decide what to archive. It is designed to be cautious, but it will sometimes archive an email you wanted in your inbox, or leave one you didn’t. Because Calm Mail never deletes email, anything it archives can be found in Gmail. Please glance at your daily digest, especially the “Worth a look” section, and don’t rely on Calm Mail alone for time-sensitive or critical messages.
6. Using Calm Mail responsibly
Please don’t misuse the service. That includes trying to access someone else’s account, interfering with how Calm Mail runs, or using it for anything unlawful.
7. Ending the service
You can stop using Calm Mail at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if we stop offering the service, in which case we’ll give you reasonable notice where we can and refund any unused prepaid time.
8. No guarantees
Calm Mail is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep it reliable, but we can’t promise it will always be available, error-free, or archive exactly what you would have chosen.
9. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, Calm Mail isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as a missed message, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Changes to these terms
If we make meaningful changes, we’ll email you before they take effect. Continuing to use Calm Mail after that means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA.
